Privacy Policy
The short version: Your habits, check-ins, notes, and settings stay on your device — there's no Kip server and no cloud copy. The only things that leave your device are what's needed to run a Kip Plus subscription (handled by Apple or Google, and verified by RevenueCat), and — only on Android, only if you choose to sign in — a Google account ID so your subscription can follow you to another device. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is ever sold.
Everything you enter into Kip is kept in a local database inside the app's own storage on your phone:
None of this is uploaded, synced, or backed up to any server we run — we don't have one. We never see it, and we can't recover it if your device is lost, reset, or the app is uninstalled. Reminder notifications are scheduled locally by your phone; Kip never registers a push token or sends reminder content anywhere.
If you start a Kip Plus trial or subscription, the purchase is made through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The store shares purchase and subscription status (which product, renewal date, active or expired) with RevenueCat, the service we use to verify subscriptions. RevenueCat identifies you by a random, anonymous app user ID generated on your device — or, if you've signed in with Google on Android, by your Google account ID. We never receive or store your payment details; Apple and Google handle those directly.
On Android, signing in with Google is optional and is never required to use Kip. If you choose to sign in:
On iOS there's no sign-in: your subscription is tied to your Apple ID by the App Store, and “Restore purchases” carries it to another device.
Settings lets you export your data as a JSON file or a PDF report. The file is created on your device and handed to whatever app you pick from the share sheet — that's your choice, and it's the only time your habit data ever leaves the device.
Each piece of information above is used only for the purpose stated next to it: running the app on your device, and verifying and restoring your subscription. We don't run analytics or crash reporting inside Kip, we don't build advertising profiles, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't use your data to train anything. RevenueCat's automatic device-identifier collection is switched off in Kip.
Data on your device stays there until you delete it in the app or uninstall Kip — there's no copy anywhere else. Subscription records held by Apple, Google, and RevenueCat follow their own retention schedules, typically for as long as your subscription is active plus whatever period billing and tax law requires.
You can export everything Kip holds about you at any time from Settings → Your data → Export data (JSON). On Android, you can sign out of Google at any time from Profile, which stops any further linking to your Google account. Wherever you live — the EU, UK, California, or elsewhere — you can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it; given how little leaves your device, that request is usually quick to answer. See the next section, or contact us.
Deleting data doesn't cancel billing. To cancel a Kip Plus subscription, use iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or the Play Store → Payments & subscriptions.
Kip isn't directed at children and asks for a date of birth during setup; anyone under 13 can't continue past that step. The date of birth never leaves the device. If you believe a child under 13 has subscribed or signed in, contact us and we'll delete the associated records.
Habit data stays inside your device's app sandbox, protected by your phone's lock screen and operating-system protections. Anything that does leave your device — purchase verification and, on Android, optional sign-in — travels encrypted over HTTPS to Apple, Google, and RevenueCat. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we keep the amount of data that ever leaves your phone to a minimum.
If this policy changes in a way that matters — a new type of data, a new service provider — we'll update the effective date above and note the change in Kip's release notes.
